Physical Education

In our school we use the Physical Education curriculum, the Move Well, Move Often resources and Glen Daly Exercise+ resources to guide our delivery of an exciting, enjoyable and inclusive P.E. curriculum.

All classes in our school are provided with 60 minutes timetabled P.E. lessons. We teach all strands of the Physical Education curriculum in our school. The Aquatics strand is covered in first and second class, the children love going swimming! Land PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) is taught in first class. PAWS offers simple common sense on how we can be safe around our waterways and life-saving guidelines.

All teachers in our school are working off the same calendar for the teaching of the P.E. curriculum. Each month, there is a focus on a different strand and on a different Fundamental Movement Skill.

This year’s priority P.E. strand is Athletics. Athletics is taught to all classes in April and May.

We were very lucky to have an athletics coach in to work with each class. Niamh focused on relay runs with the baton, the long jump and javelin throwing.

All of our P.E. equipment has a designated home and is labelled clearly. The Active School Committee help Ms. Waters and Ms. Duffy to do a tidy every month.

Ms. Waters and Ms. Duffy have completed two seminars on Physical Literacy.
