The History of our area and school

This is a map of Neilstown in 1912.

At this time, Neilstown was only a very small part of Clondalkin's 2179 population with very few houses and as the map shows, many large fields.

The school and church would have been located at the points shown on the map but this map was made 78 years before either were built

Our school and church was build in 1979

108 years later, Neilstown is now a much larger part of Clondalkin's 47000 population.

Neilstown is also now a much larger community with more houses, shops and of course, St. Peter Apostle Church and schools

St. Peter Apostle National School was founded in 1977. At the time the school had no premises and the children had to travel by bus to Kilnamanagh where some classrooms were rented. Mr. Pól Breathnach was the principal and Mrs. Maureen Gardiner was the vice principal..

Our new school was well underway by the beginning of 1978 and later that year we moved in. This is now the Junior School. More and more families moved in to the area and a second school, the Senior School was opened in 1979. The two schools became separate entities with their own Principals. Mr. Breathnach became principal of the Senior School and Mrs. Gardiner principal of the Junior School.

A major initiative in the development of the Senior and Junior Schools was the appointment of a Home/School/Community Liaison Co-ordinator. Mrs. Marie Moloney was the first person appointed to this position. The role of the co-ordinator has had a great impact on the school’s community, pupils, parents, teachers and management.

In 2001 Mrs. Marie Moloney was appointed principal of the Junior School on the retirement of Mrs. Gardiner. Since her appointment Mrs. Moloney has sought to promote increased contact and co-operation between Senior and Junior Schools.

In recent years, our school has embarked on a number of school initiatives including the Green Schools and Active Schools initiatives.
