Partnerships

Partnerships within and outside the school are an important aspect of the Active School Flag.
Active School Committee
One of the most important partnerships is with the pupils of the school.
This year we have a super Active School Flag Committee who have regular meetings with Ms. Waters and Ms. Duffy. They do a brilliant job promoting active initiatives and encouraging their peers to be active. They help to set up the playground equipment, tidy P.E. resources and lead the active lines each break.

A big thank you to the committee for setting up the skipping challenge resources every morning for the last four weeks!

Athletics

We are very lucky to have Niamh from Athletics Ireland working with our students to help them learn and improve theirs skills in running, jumping and throwing through fun and engaging activities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to build confidence, stay active, and discover a love for athletics.

GAA

Last year we were delighted to welcome a GAA coach from Round Towers into our school as part of an exciting initiative to introduce children to Gaelic games and help them develop new sporting skills.

The coach worked with pupils from each class, teaching the fundamentals of Gaelic football in a fun, supportive environment. From basic ball-handling and passing drills to mini games, every child was encouraged to get involved and give the sport a go - many for the very first time!

The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a new sport, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of teamwork and physical activity.

We’re grateful for this partnership and look forward to many more sessions in the future.

We had a very special visitor —the Sam Maguire Cup! Excitement filled the school as pupils and staff gathered to take photos with the cup!

Partnerships with parents

We are always delighted to see so many parents join us for our Active School Walks at different times throughout the year. The walks are a simple, fun, and meaningful way to get moving together as a school community! Thanks to all the parents who joined!

Each Wednesday during the winter months, parents are invited to join 'Walk on  Wednesdays', a weekly morning walk organized by Ms. Duffy  to promote wellness, conversation, and connection. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and open to all, no sign-up required, just comfortable shoes!

As part of our exciting Maths Week celebrations, the parents of 1st and 2nd class children took part in a series of fun and active Maths Trails. The children loved learning on the go and having the opportunity to solve a range of practical maths challenges spread around the school grounds. From counting and measuring to spotting shapes and solving puzzles, it was a brilliant way to explore mathematical thinking outside of the classroom.

A big thank you to all the teachers involved and to all the families who joined us, we appreciate your support.

Active School Slogan

We held an exciting slogan competition inviting all pupils to come up with a catchy and meaningful phrase that encourages us to stay active and make healthy choices.

The winning slogan 'Let's improve the way we move'  was created by Mr. Kiernan's 2nd class.

This fantastic slogan stood out for its positive message, simple wording, and strong encouragement to get everyone thinking about how we can all move more and move better — whether through walking, running, dancing, stretching, or playing!

A big congratulations to our winner, and thank you to everyone who took part. The new slogan will now be used throughout the school to support our active school goals and remind us all to keep moving every day!

We made active school stickers using some of the fabulous designs created by the children!

Well done to all our young designers for helping make our school a more active and more colourful place!

Water Safety Ireland

During National Water Safety Awareness Week, some of our classes joined a Water Safety Webinar to help our pupils learn essential skills and knowledge about staying safe around water. The webinar provided valuable information on topics like swimming safety, water hazards, and how to react in an emergency.

Survey - What clubs are you in?

There are a wide range of clubs in our area that help to keep our pupils active beyond the school day. We recently carried out a survey to find out which clubs our pupils are involved in—and the results are impressive! Our students stay active through a fantastic variety of activities, including soccer, GAA, martial arts, gymnastics, boxing, swimming and dance.

Check out the results below.

St. Peter Apostle's Football Team

This year our first and second class pupils joined an after school football club. They train every Thursday. At the end of June, some of our second class pupils will be participating in a football tournament with other schools from the local area. This is a very exciting opportunity for them to show off all their skills, and we wish them the very best of luck! Thanks to Mr. Molloy and Mr. Kiernan for all their hard work in getting the team ready!
