Physical Activity
We know that active kids learn better so our aim is to be active as we can throughout the school day. We provide a range of fun opportunities to help the children learn on the move. Not only does this help improve focus and well-being, but it also makes learning more exciting!
Check out some of our recent activities below, we've been running, jumping, skipping and learning all while having a great time!

Every day, each class enjoys two active breaks. Even when it is raining outside, we make use of Bizzy Breaks, Olympic Movement Breaks and GoNoodle. These are fun and interactive indoor activities that get the children moving, laughing, and learning, all while boosting their energy and concentration.
In September, we kicked off the school year with our Wake Up and Walk initiative, and it was a huge success! Each class participated in a fun and healthy walk around our local area, joined by parents, teachers and staff. It was a fantastic way to get everyone moving, connect with our community, and enjoying the fresh air together.

To show our appreciation for Ireland’s amazing relay athletes, we had every class take part in the #RelayTakeOver on Friday 27th September. We watched short videos to teach us the skill of relay baton exhchange. We watched some videos of the Irish relay team at the Olympics too, we loved cheering them on! Look how much fun we had on our #RelayTakeOver day! We used batons, teddy bears and even water balloons!

We dressed up for Halloween and went on a ‘Witche’s Walk’ around our local area.

We had a blast participating in the four-week Active Break Challenge! Each day, the children took responsibility for ticking off their Active Break Challenge charts, making sure they got moving and stayed active during their school day.
At our weekly assemblies, we celebrated the classes who had completed their active breaks every day. Each of these classes were entered into a raffle to win extra yard time! It was a fantastic way to motivate the students and get them excited about staying active.
A huge thank you to Ms. Hodson for creating a brilliant Padlet filled with lots of fun links to active break ideas!

To end the Active Break Every Day challenge we held a Christmas Sports Day. It was a huge success!

We held our annual Santa Dash in December. We ran laps around the school yard in our Christmas jumpers to raise money for the charity My Canine Companion.
Andy the therapy dog from the senior school even made an appearance!
It was a fun and festive way to get active while supporting a fantastic cause.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and donated!

For every lap completed, we put a sticker on the Christmas tree. Look how many laps we ran!

We had a busy and active Seachtain na Gaeilge. Our week kicked off with a parade around our local area. The Infants had great fun practicing their Gaeilge through Cluichí Clóis and the First and Second class pupils enjoyed Óga Yoga, wonderful ways to combine Gaeilge with physical activity! Thanks to all the teachers involved!
One of the highlights of the week was when the whole school learned the dance, An Dreoilín. Everyone came together to perform it on the yard, showing off our dance moves and celebrating Irish culture.

Ms. Waters and Ms. Duffy set up our new Walk Way. We are ready to learn on the move!
A big thank you to Tony for all his help in bringing the Walk Way to life! We’re all set to enjoy some fresh air, get our steps in, and keep our minds sharp as we learn on the move.

We absolutely loved taking part in the Skip Around Europe Challenge. Our goal was to 'skip' our way across Europe — one kilometre at a time! We began by learning the ‘ready position’ and practicing our jumping skills. Each day, we skipped for 15 minutes, gradually building our skills, and having lots of fun along the way.
The progress was amazing and we couldn’t believe how far we’d gone by the end of the challenge!
It was a wonderful way to stay active, work together, and learn new skills.
Well done to all the children for their effort and enthusiasm!

Ms. Hodson and our brilliant Active School Committee carried out a whole-school survey to find out how much we enjoyed the Skip Around Europe Challenge. The results are in—and it’s clear that we absolutely loved it! Free skipping was the most popular station. Not only did we have great fun, but our skipping skills have improved enormously too!

Our Skipping Showcase was a fantastic success. The whole school came together to show off the skipping skills we developed during the four-week challenge. It was great fun learning from one another and cheering on our peers - and even the teachers got involved!
